How it all Started
The Founder Mr Lim Kim Heong, is borne in the 1960s, has humble beginnings. At the young age of 13, he started helping his father at a hawker stall by washing the dishes. Little did he know that it was the start of a passionate career in cooking.
In the Beginning
In his teens, he ventured out explored selling “Char Kway Teow” (Fried Rice Noodle) and “Hokkien Fried Prawn Mee”. Ultimately, it was Mr Lim’s own favourite dish, “Teochew, Pork and Fish ball with Mee Pok (Flat Noodle)”, that strikes a popularity amongst the customers
1993 ~ 2003
In 1993, business was brisk at “Jalan Tua Kong Lau Lim Mee Pok Kway Teow Mee” stall. Regular customers were willing to queue for over an hour just to savour the Signature Mee Pok. One of our regular customers who is an entrepreneur, saw the the potential of this business and approached Mr Lim to expand to a bigger shop at a nearby location, Simpang Beok.
2004 ~ 2013
With Financial backing from their partner, we opened the current shop at 308 Bedok Road in Oct 2004. Within a couple of years, we expanded to the next unit at 306 Bedok Road to meet the overwhelming demand.
2014 ~ 2015
Recognising the need to streamline the process and reduce waiting time, during busy weekends, an extra stove was fired up to cope with the increased business. Alongside of being aware of the importance of modernisation, a paging system was implemented to enhance customer experience and their satisfaction. After ordering and paying, the customers would wait at their seats with a drink instead of queuing in line. Achieved the purpose to streamline the process and reducing waiting time.
In May, Lau Lim opened a new outlet at 269 Queen Street (behind Bugis+, the shopping mall). Within 3 months, the business broke even and sales are steadily growing.
In this period, Mr Lim noticed that whenever his Indonesian customers are in Singapore, they loved the Mee Pok so much they would pack over 30 boxes just to bring back to Jakarta. As they kept appealing to Mr Lim and his partner to open an outlet in Jakarta, a new branch is scheduled to open in Jakarta.
2017 - Beyond
